Yes, I agree, in the moment is the key! Not coming in with an "I need to get this off of my chest" or "you need to fix this" agenda. A willingness to find the good, even if smarting from a perceived slight, and move forward. This, I believe, is good for relationships, and, as you suggest, for other aspects of daily life.

Good thoughts and challenges as usual!

Hi LeeAnn,

Thank you for a lovely, thought provoking, well written piece. I'm inspired and grinning from ear to ear. Quite often I breeze (and swiftly delete) through email, my intent to be more in relationship with people and less in the swirls of email communication. However this afternoon I enjoyed choosing to "listen" to what you had to share, and felt like you and I had a good quality chat over a cup of tea. Thank you for the wisdom you share.

When I'm in a challenging communication/relationship I'm helped by regarding such folks as my "heavenly sandpaper", here smooth my rough edges. I am then better able to be with them, more the person I want to be and most often I realize something about myself.

Affirming what I heard from the lips of my Nia teacher, Carlos Rosas
"Relationships are God's gift to Self Awareness".

Interesting, as always! Thank you for ideas to challenge thought!

My earth science experience says: Not so fast with the rock being solid and permanent. This is a time thing. Short term, yes, long term, even the rock wears, moves, changes, becomes what is next. Change, slow or fast, but either way, inevitable.

I can really relate to this, LeeAnn! I always appreciate your posts and look forward to putting this to the test outside of the dance studio. When you think about it, we really do dance through life if we're paying attention. Sometimes we dance more rigidly or more fluidly than others, that is for sure! I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week and hope to "dance" with you soon!

Hi John,
Thanks for the comments! I really relate to the apologizing before speaking part. Something about speaking up for myself has been a lifelong challenge for me. Ask any of the other coaches at LAL - they'll tell you good stories, I'm sure!

Will look forward to seeing you at Time and Mastery.

Hi Penelope, It was great to see you in SF! And yes please don't beat yourself up. You are such a great model for me of someone who loves herself unconditionally and does things her way. I've really been inspired as I've got to know you.

LeeAnn,

What a beautiful post. I love what you said about focusing on the strengths in your dog. That is so awesome. Dogs sure do make us better don't they? My Labrador always reminds me to slow down and focus on the simple things in life. They also teach us about unconditional love.

It also helped me to read what you said about unconditional love and ourselves. Sometimes I find myself apologizing before I even start saying or doing something. Hey, I can just be me and that is ok. What a great reminder and way to make this easier to understand. Thanks! I will be at Time and Mastery in a few weeks. Hope to see you there.
